Upto 4!

Team Tajikivan held our first team meeting on Friday 29th January, bringing together all four of our team members who hadn't yet ever met each other!

Our team consists of a bunch of strangers found from random corners of the internet!

Needless to say it went well and we got along fine, getting to know each other and planning some fund-raising ideas and generally hiding indoors from the cold!

Our team now consists of four people

up and running

Hi All

We are four teachers that have been friends for years. Will it last??? Well you will just have to wait and see smiley-undecided.teaser.gif

The main man behind the trip is Joey. It was his idea to do the rally and when he knew he really wanted to go, he had to find a crew that could stick the pace. Brothers Liam and P.J. and head the ball Drewsy were the men for the job.  read more »

One Small Step...

After breaking my leg (tib and fib) riding my bike back in August 09 (a classic SMIDSY), I have been on crutches not being allowed to use it. However, last week has been good for my road to recovery, after my 3rd visit to hospital I am now allowed walk about using just one stick. It’s really weird sensation, using ones leg again after such a long time (13 weeks). I felt pretty scared the pain is going to come back, just after a fateful crunching sound. I am gradually getting the hang of it and it is beginning to feel normal once again. There is one down side though, my ligaments and muscles are complaining about being used once again!  read more »

Full-house

"At first there was one, now there are four".  No, this isn't a famous quote, just me talking out loud.  At last, the four members have signed their lives away, the entry fee has been paid and enquiries are being made as to where the hell we get an Ambulance from, how we drive to Mongolia and why we are doing this.

Stay frosty, stay fresh.

Hoy es el primer dia

Ora si!!!!!!! Today is the first day of a new adventure... well not really, since we've been working hard for quite some time already TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN yeah baby!!

Anyhow, you are going to be able to follow Lucho and it's 7 luchadores through all our journey.

Check our blog as often as you change your undies... well uhmm maybe check the blog more often.

Our first meetup as a team - by Martin

So today we met up for the first time as a trio in order to lay down plans for the upcoming trip to Mongolia. Up to this point, we knew only the basics; that we were going by motorcycle, that the target was Mongolia and that we’ve given ourselves three weeks in which to achieve it starting in July 2010.

Dave and myself met up with Richard at a busy Harvester pub/grub place in Bedford. Richard is still car bound as he recovers from his motorcycle accident so he drove, as did we when we saw the weather was going to be crap. The food was cheap and cheerful, so no complaints for the location.  read more »

Update - Martin

Ok Martin is now coming home from Mongolia. He can get an emergency passport reasonably quickly but it means he has to go back to the UK. It would take 10 days for a replacement passport that would allow him to continue on to Mongolia but the team don't have the time due to visa restrictions.

Passport update

Ok having spent 6 hours in police custody with Tof, waiting for the police to sort out the lost passport issue, Martin emerged with a sheet of paper saying that his passport is lost and that he shouldn't be deported. Tomorrows destination is Ekaterinburg to the British consulate to obtain an emergency passport, only a minor detour and then they're on their way again - all part of the adventure (or so I've been told)......

Degree?

Well I have just handed in my dissertation, signalling the end of my degree. Tim finished last week and has since been ringing any company he can think of in search of sponsorship, coming up with some potential leads.

We can now concentrate all our efforts on organising stuff for the big day. Visas, equipment and fundraising is now or main priority. The van has just been taken in for a severe going over back home in Dorset, hopefully there's not too much wrong with it. The headlights are useless on it at the moment so they need replacing and it has a very slow oil leak coming from underneath it somewhere.
