Child Centre

The project seeks to relocate the previous child centre to a more central location in Ulaanbaatar to continue to function as a drop-in and support service centre for street children. This will allow more street children to benefit from family reunification activities, developmental activities, referral services, individual and group counselling services, and other essential services planned through better facility and icnreased fudning. In addition, the new child centre will function as a support centre to other NGOs and government agencies working on street children issues.

National Rehabilitation and Education Centre

The second part of the project also seeks to equip a newly constructed Rehabilitation and Education Centre in Ulaanbaatar with technical therapy equipment* needed to function as the national rehabilitation centre for children with physical and learning disabilities.

* = Physical therapy equipment (tumble forms, bubble ball bath, wrist and ankle weight, children's folding parallel bars, powder board table); speech therapy equipment (one handed writing board, head pointers); occupational therapy equipment (utensil sets, pegboards); and hydro therapy equipment (swimming pool lifter).

The project will be implemented by and monitored by Save the Children UK in Ulaanbaatar.

Budget Breakdown

  • £6K for the Child Centre
  • £3K for CP advocacy efforts for establishing a national child protection system to protect physically, emotionally and sexually abused children.
  • £1K for child protection programme and admin support costs
Current Status

The project was succesfully implemented and Go Help has established strong relationships with both centres and continue to work together. The Child Centre is still being run as part of the Child Protection Programme, funded by Go Help in 2010 and implemented by Save the Children Japan. The National Rehabilitation and Education Centre's refurbishment work was completed and the centre continues to operate still. They seek further support and partnership from Go Help and other organisations to improve their capacity and operations. Volunteering opportunites and exchange programmes from distance is welcome.
