Fit For Purpose

In Summer 2008 James , Visesh and Adam , a bunch of bumbling semi-competent undergraduates from various backgrounds, will be driving a quarter of the way around the world in a car that is nearly as old as they are in aid of the Cambridge-Mongolian charity CAMDA (Cambridge Mongolian Disaster Appeal) and another charity closer to home (details tbc).

Their momentous journey will begin in London on the 5th July, and end in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia if and when they arrive approximately a month later - a month that will be filled with potholes, dust, deserts, baking days, freezing nights and more adversity than you can shake a stick at. Separately utterly useless, together they create a machine of
incredible mediocrity that is, or will be by launch day at least,(barely) Fit For Purpose.

Their planned route takes them through 18 countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg (?), Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and finally into Mongolia, where they’ll make their way to Dave’s pub in Ulanbataar, the capital. This is providing things go well… Alternative routes include lovely stretches through Iran, Kyrgyzstan and possibly China. That is of course, if their car gets them out of the M25…
