Fundraising
The fundraising can be as much fun as the drive itself. Put your mind to it and your mates will think you're mad and doing something crazy that raises loads of cash for charity.
There are lots of ideas for fundraising so that you can maximise your efforts - have a look in our forums for some of the ideas other teams have had.
Mongolian Money
You can raise cash for the charities and also for your personal expenses, but you have to be very clear which is which. Donations to your chosen charities should go through a Justgiving account. On Justgiving everyone gets to see a total of how much you've raised and everyone knows their donation is going straight to the charity. The other advantage of raising money in this way is that you will not be chasing people for promised payment, or carrying cash. Gift aid is also available on all donations.
If you particularly don't want to use justgiving, that is ok, but please send us details of total amounts you raise - your team page will automatically show you how much you've raised along with your route, messages from the journey and your own photo gallery!
What about personal costs of the trip?
Making a trip this long can be quite expensive even if you are watching the pennies. It is fine for you to get sponsorship to cover your costs from commercial sponsors, but anything you raise beyond your basic costs has to go to the charities you are supporting. One idea is to get sponsors to pay for your petrol or your visas. A good idea is to let people donate by the litre of petrol on your website to buy miles on your trip.
Just make sure when you're mugging your Gran on the way to her knitting classes, you make it very clear that you’re going to be spending her pension on petrol!
What about money we raise?
All the money Go Help raise from commercial sponsorship of the event including TV coverage goes into the Go Help funds. After the Rally, all the teams get to choose what project we support in Mongolia - providing it is charitable - with the money raised from the overall commercial sponsorship.
