Intrepid

Team Intrepid

On 11th July 2009 team INTREPID will be taking part in the Mongolia Charity Rally. We will be riding two Yamaha XJ Diversion motorbikes one third of the way around the world from Islington, London to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. This journey will take us through 18 countries, 3 mountain ranges and 2 deserts to raise money for Save the Children and the Children’s Development and Protection Fund (CDPF).

Team INTREPID consists of Gayle a research scientist, and Craig, a design engineer both from Portsmouth. Each year we take part in a challenge and try to raise money for others who are less fortunate than ourselves. Our previous exploits include walking 100km across the South Downs in 21hrs to raise more than £1000 for Oxfam and taking part in the Great South Run to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year’s challenge will be our biggest yet.

Our aim is to raise £1000 for Save the Children before we leave for Mongolia and upon arrival our vehicles and any spare parts we take will be donated to the CDPF, where it will be auctioned to raise yet more money for charity.

Each year thousands of children in Mongolia go without an education or even a home as many are forced to live on the streets due to the harsh economic climate, where they are subjected to abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect. Save the Children and CDPF are charities dedicated to helping these children by providing mobile teachers and training materials for nomadic communities, supplying and organising recreation facilities, helping to reunite families as well as offering counselling and much more.

If you would like to make a donation, our just giving site is www.justgiving.co.uk/teamintrepid and all donations made in this way will go straight to Save the Children. In preparation for this journey INTREPID will be travelling around the country visiting numerous bike events.
