Charity rallies: 2008 Mongolia rally launch and Nadaam festival

On 5th July 2008, the Mongolia Charity Rally sets forth from London. Teams will traverse 10,000 miles of pot holes, bandits, deserts and Mountain ranges. They can look forward to dining on noodles, mutton and fermented mare’s milk. On arrival in the capital of Ulan Bataar, cars will be donated to a Mongolian charitable foundation. The Mongolian association of the UK felt such an undertaking was worthy of a good send off. They are organising a traditional Mongolian Nadaam festival to coincide with the rally’s departure from London. Highbury Fields, Islington will be transformed into a little piece of Mongolia with Ger tents, wrestling, archery, traditional singers and a Buddhist prayer to wish the rally entrants a safe passage. Teams must then devise their own routes from London; newbies may prefer to take the easy tarmac road route through Russia, whereas, those looking for a bit more adventure can boldly head south through Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan and any of the other ‘stan’s before heading into Mongolia through the western route for some serious off-road fun in one of the least populated regions on earth. Whichever route they take, the one thing teams won’t be able to miss is the famous Mongolian hospitality; before they know it they’ll be sitting in a Ger sipping Yak butter tea with the locals.
