We're in UB, who have thought it was possible ...
Submitted by Ricky Balboa on Thu, 31/07/2008 - 8:40am. apart from us of course, the car has been a legend, though we got through a few tyres, almost all punctures through the sidewalls, had none in Kazakhstan, but Mongolia is lethal for rubber it seems, so I'm glad our bonnet based rubber ducks didn't make it that far. Our last moment on the road wasn't quite on the road as we grounded out on an earthen road block but it only set us back by an hour or so and we made UB by lunch, last night the tent finally died when the wind tore it up and blew it flat, Dan took to the car while I hid under the remaining tatters, we just relaxing today in the Gobi Backpackers hostel and will deliver the car to the CDPF tomorrow, wicked!
Rock on people!

| 49 weeks 1 day ago | Yep, we're in Olgii, in Wester Mongolia at the moment, and it's amazing! But to start the story from Barnaul, we bumped into a hippy en roiute to the border and he invited us to a hippy festival, so not wanting to appear ungracious we went along and after walking 10km up a mountain to camp above the tree line had a fantastic time with amazing views, unfortunatelt camaer batteries went dead. The Floristic show was mad flowers everywhere and somewthing along the lines of guinea pigs too! read more » | 1 | |

| 1 year 6 days ago | Things are all coming together now quite nicely ... Fitted a steel sump-guard to the Escort on Thursday (so now it is bombproof) ... I say sump-guard but in reality it covers a whole lot more, why skimp when the supply of steel sheeting is plentiful I say! Thanks to Adrian at Badminston Garage for that one and a whole lot more, he's been a total legend! read more » | 0 | |
| 1 year 3 weeks ago | Just like it says on the title, I've organised a charity gig at THE FIREHOUSE in Southampton, everyone is invited and for a minimum donation of just £3 on the door you get three great bands from the Southampton area, these are: Plastic Toys (electro rockers playing a limited edition accoutsic set), Roshambo (an Indy band in all but name for they are much better that plain old Indy) and one read more » | 0 |

Congratulations to both of you, this is an amazing achievement. I'm sure you are enjoying the buzz now, and that its something you'll be proud of for your whole life. I don't know Ricky, but I'm sure Dan will be living on the beers people buy him for telling the stories about Monogolia for a long time. We're very proud of you, and a bit jealous cos you're still so young and adventurous. All the best from down under, looking forward to catching up soon. I'm just figuring out the link and we'll chuck in for your charities. Well done!
Cheers, Tim Sara and Jake
well done to you both ... and a brilliant effort getting the little Escort all the way - Ford's are tough little beasts ... but London to Ub takes some doing even for a blue oval! Watch out for my Capri next year!
best wishes and congratulations!
Hi Boys - Wow!! You made it - Congratulations. What a fantastic achievement and experience; one I guess you'll remember for the rest of your life. Really looking forward to seeing you soon and catching up on all the news and pictures. A night at The Clarence is going to seem a bit tame after this! We'll all have a big drink to you tonight.
Lots of love from a very proud Mum and Ben and Mad Dog Charlie xxx
Ricky/Dan,
I am thinking about 'redecorating' my Capri for the trip next year? Did you have any problems or any trouble at any of the borders with your car passport not matching the vehicle?. I am thinking about the colour - your Escort started out white and unless you notified the DVLA of the colour change and got a new V5 (did you?) the Ruski's must have been a little bit confused with you rocking up with a half black half white flame curled beasty?
Let me know if you get a chance.
