Fun facts (PUBLIC)
Gender:
Male
Age:
39
Qualifications:
Nothing relevant ... unless you count an O-Level in Geography?
Skills:
I can drive (a bit), I can fix broken people (kind of) and navigate (pretty good, actually) - but hopeless with broken cars; which could be a problem for this trip!
Looking forward to:
Getting out of London and being on the open road ..... the amazing wilderness of Mongolia ... new experiences ... and wild horses in wild places ... perfect pony car country!
NOT Looking forward to:
spine twisting, back breaking roads and a 29 year old Capri running on a wing and a prayer, gasping it's last petrol fuelled breath in the middle of nowhere!
Previous driving experience:
well, I can drive, I passed my test first time; and I have only crashed two or three times ...... "I've seen it on TV, of course"

Re: Andrew Emmett (Speedbird)

SpeedbirdSpeedbirdIt has become abundantly clear that I will have to do roadside repairs en route to Mongolia ... made all the more apparent by the Capri breaking on the way home from it's MOT!

So it looks like I am learning how to get my hands dirty and actually fix things ....

In the words of Harry Hogge ... "This is NOT the answer I am looking for from you..."

"I'd like to help... really I would ... but I am an idiot ... I mean I can drive ... They said get in the car and drive .. and I could ... but what you just said .. a turn here, a twist there... I have no idea what you are talking about ... I don't have the vocabulary ..."

"I'm gonna give you an engine low to the ground... extra thick oil pan to cut the wind from underneath you. I'll give you thirty or forty more horsepower. I'm gonna give you a fuel line that'll hold an extra gallon of gas. I'm gonna shave half an inch off you and shape you like a bullet. I'll get you primed, painted and weighed, and you'll be ready to go out on that racetrack. Hear me? You're gonna be perfect."

Film? Actors? Year?  Answers in the guest book please ...

Randomly selected correct answer wins a souvenir 'hunk of junk' from the Capri that went to Mongolia and back ...  ;-)

Re: Andrew Emmett (Speedbird)

You, sir, have won yourself  a souvenir 'hunk of junk' from the Capri that is going to Mongolia and back ... but since you are a Capri man, you probably have a few hunks of junk of your own ... so how about we raise the stakes a bit .. I could send you a bit of my Capri that is knackered ... suitably decorated of course; and you could send me something from your Capri that actually works ... as it stands at the moment I need washer bottle pumps for screen and headlamps, plus a headlamp washer unit as fitted on Ghia models ... one of mine is completely buggered - bolts sheared off, inlet hose connector destroyed ... not much of a trade I know but you could probably recondition it .... or I can spray it silver for you and you can use it as a door stop or paperweight!

You could take pride in knowing that you donated a really useful and important part to help keep my screen and headlamps clean on the rally ... and boy, the dust out there is unbelievable so I will need it for sure!

Re: Andrew Emmett (Speedbird)

Well what can i say ,i might be able to fit you up with a washer pump but the headlamp washers ,now there is a rare item,i did have a pair on an old 3,0Ghia but sadly they got squashed along with the shell ,much to my regret now even though they were useless

Re: Andrew Emmett (Speedbird)

Hi Shark,  I had no idea the headlamp washers were rare - until after i wrecked one of mine taking them off!  i should have left them on and painted around them!

Send me an email to the team email address 50degreesnorth@live.co.uk so I can contact you about the washer bottle pumps.

Also, have you got any info on the 4x4 Capri rally car at all? or photos?  Or for thast matter, by any chance do you know of such a thing as a Capri Rally Preparation Manual?  Just on the off-chance?

thanks for coming back to my team page by the way ... I appreciate the support!
