Phill is a 24 year old chef. He lives in Dublin, but comes from Ngaruawahia NZ.  Phill's skills inlcude spontaneous masterpiece desserts and running marathons.

Ilya is a 25 year old solicitor, practising commercial law at a corporate law firm in Wellington NZ.  Ilya's skills include speaking Russian and climbing mountains.

Chris is a 21 year old glacier guide, living on the West Coast of the South Island, NZ. Chris's skills include navigation and enjoying the rain.

What is this "Awesome Cause"?

Team Haerenaga is raising money to donate a much-needed ambulance to Mongolia.

The ambulance is destined to become a mobile health clinic for the Children's Development Centre in a remote district of Ulaanbaatar.

Team Haerenga is sourcing the ambulance from Ireland, and driving it 16,000 km to Ulaanbaatar.

What does Team Haerenga need?

Team Haerenga needs to raise funds to pay for the ambulance and the costs of delivering the ambulance to Mongolia. Have a look below to see how the money will be spent.

Please donate, you'll get good karma!

What can Team Haerenga offer to a corporate sponsor?

If you want some good exposure in the local and national press in Ireland or in New Zealand (or both), please contact us to discuss our sponsorship proposal.  We have some solid and original ideas to promote your brand.

How will the money be spent?

Team Haerenga wants to raise £7000.

The first £1000 will go to the Children's Development Centre. Our funds raised toward the cash donation so far are shown on the totaliser inset on the left of this page. Once the £1000 target is reached, we will collect funds for the car through our PayPal account for the remaining costs.

The next £3000 will go towards buying the ambulance, which will be donated to the Children's Development Centre on arrival.

The next £3000 is for team expenses.  This will go towards petrol for 16,000 km, insurance for the car, and any necessary repairs to keep the ambulance in good condition.

How to donate

Please use the ORANGE "Donate" PayPal button (on the right of this page) to donate toward the cost of the ambulance and associated expenses. We would also gratefully accept New Zealand bank deposit. Our account has been kindly provided free of charge by the National Bank: Mongolia Rally Team Haerenga - 06-0507-0199688-00.

The BLUE "Donate" link (on the left of this page) allows you to donate to Go Help, who are organising this event. These donations will be forwarded the Children's Development Cetre.

Final Wrap-up

in

We have made itUlaanbaatarUlaanbaatar

We have arrived in Ulanbaataar and will shortly hand Martha the ambulance over to GoHelp, who carry out charity work in Mongolia. Martha has handled the journey excellently and, after a clean, will be ready for service. GoHelp will be making arrangements for Martha's new home.

So, some numbers

19 countries, 17,500 kms, 10 punctures, 10 or so hitchhikers and over 6 weeks of awesome times.

Photos, and more blog

Photos from our trip will appear on Picasa (there will be many). We will put up a link on this blog in the next two weeks.

If you are reading this blog on our site or on facebook, you may have missed some of our blogs that we had put in retrospectively. You can have a look through the whole blog on the site to catch up with our adventures.

And now, some thanks

Massive thanks to all our sponsors, who are listed on our sponsor page.

Particular thanks to Photo and Video International in Christchurch for providing us with an Olympus Mju Tough 8010 and gear. This waterproof, dustproof and shockproof point-and-shoot performed brilliantly and was the perfect piece of kit for our adventure. It endured without objection the incessant dust, several swims and a few falls. Plus it looks good. If any of the pictures are not excellent, it is purely due to operator error.

Great thanks also to Icebreaker, who helped us with clothing for our trip. The central steppe and Gobi desert lived up to their reputations, plus we drove through the European heatwave. For 6 weeks I wore my Icebreaker singlet, and it still does not smell (I asked another adventurer to smell it, and he reported with surprise that it smelt like wool). The warmer layers were essential when the sun was away and temperatures plummeted. People marveled at our kit.

Thanks also to Bivouac for helping us with pack and sleeping bag. Exped gear performed beautifully.

Thanks to all those who contributed funds to make it possible to buy and deliver the ambulance.

Finally, thanks to all our supporters for following our progress and for messages of support.

Post Scriptum

Phill has gone back to Dublin to continue being a pastry chef. Ilya is heading to Moscow to start work. And Chris is heading back to NZ after doing some more traveling.

Over and out

Team Haerenga
