exhausting day driving the Mongol highways (you have to see the roads to believe them) Start with the worst potholed road you can imagine, now tilt it 20 degrees left or right, Fill it with sand and dust add deep ruts that will rip out the underside of your car now imagine not one but five, six or ten all crisscrossing each other over the landscape, every 20 seconds you have to decide which one to take, pick the wrong one you risk getting a flat or ripping out your oil pan or simply going off in the wrong direction or at the very least experience a bone-jarring slam. now drive these roads for hundreds of kilometers!!!! So that was today, now to add a little spice do it with no brakes whatsoever !!!! So halfway through the day Tessa's brakes give out completely, Wes and Phil made a valiant effort to try and fix them but no go. One bolt holding the calipers to the disk would not budge. So we drive the next 100 km using only the transmission and handbrake to stop. We creep into town after sunset with one headlight (lost one 5 days ago) and head to a all-nite mechanic. Some cool mongol mechs fix our brake problem and we join up with Wes at local hotel. 1 room, 4 beds and a bathroom/shower ... more tomorrow as we should arrive in UB late afternoon.
