Lithuania!
Submitted by Kronners on Mon, 25/08/2008 - 5:09pm. Hi All, here we are typing from a gigantic super shopping centre just inside Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Since our last blog (yes i know it's been a few days) we've been busy driving (obviously) and also through a few more countries. We originally realised that our slightly optimistic timescale to travel up Sweden then down Finland would've taken far too long so we re-assessed our timings and decided to get the 'short' ferry across from Stockholm to Helsinki. Upon arrival it turned out the 'short' crossing turned out to be a 14 hour overnight mini-cruise! Well after sight-seeing in Stockholm and going to a fun fair we then played Monopoly in the jazz bar on our cruise with beer in hand, awesome and yet weird!
After a brief stay in Helsinki we then got this time a short ferry crossing to Talinn, Estonia where we then drove down past the Baltic Sea coast through Latvia and into Lithuania. By now the light was dimming and we were ahead of schedule so we called Ray and Janina, Evelina's parents in their fantastic house! We've been fishing where i showed Luke how to fish and caught a 23lb Carp on my 2nd cast (honestly....well maybe not the second cast, it might have been the third). We've fed to the brim by the fantastic cooking of Janina and have had a wonderful time staying in Sirvintos, thankyou Ray & Janina!
We are now heading on our way to Poland and then onto Ukraine before we encounter Russia...people are not quite understanding the English language more often, things are getting slightly tougher.
Hope everyone is well and we'll see you soon.
Luke & Neil.
