Visited one of the oldest Monastries of Mongolia situated in a beautiful valley with green slopes. Got accidently locked inside but got out! On our way to the presumably most beautiful part of Mongolia. Hopefully the lakes and forest will give us some Siberian experience, except the cold :-)

Niets is zo veranderlijk als planningen, zeker als je op reis bent. Door een communicatiefout tussen de rally organisatie in London en "Go Help" in UlaanBaator heeft "Go Help" toen wij Mongolie binnenkwamen de Disco onterecht ingevoerd. Omdat deze ouder dan 10 jaar is (en daarom ook eigenlijk niet ingevoerd mocht worden volgens de regels van de rally) zijn deze invoerrechten 3000 US$. Na heel erg veel gebel en geregel bleek dat Go Help dit geld op geen enkele manier terug zou kunnen krijgen. Dit kregen wij gisterochtend te horen. read more »

Ralaxen in Ulaan Baator

Wat is het heerlijk om even te kunnen genieten van de luxe van een hotel en warmte! UlaanBaator is erg relaxed luxe en westers en lijkt in geen enkel ander opzicht op de rest van Mongolie. Heel erg veel westerse en koreaanse restaurantjes hier, dus lekker eten, zelfs voor ons vegetariers!
We zijn vanmiddag even bij Go-Help geweest, de organisatie die alles regelt in Mongolie. Erg aardige vrouw die alles in haar eentje lijkt te runnen. Hier zijn we ook officieel over de finish-line gelopen, of eigenlijk zijn we er onderdoor gelopen omdat ze hem boven de deur had gehangen :-) Morgen gaan we met haar kijken bij het zwerfkinderopvang huis dat met het ingezamelde geld van vorigjaar is gebouwd. Lijkt me leuk om iets te zien waar het ingezamelde geld naar toe gaat.

The Gobi is beautifull and boring as well. 2 days without any car problems, incl a successfull river X-ing. Now heading for hot springs to wash of the dust!

Till now Mongolia is tough, 25h waiting at the border, later the Ford hit a rock and broke its sump and full tank & subsequently we had to spent the night at 2500 m! Brrr...! Luckily Roelan could fix the engine and early this afternoon we found a nice & warm hotel & good vegetarian food. Happy

Made it to Mongolia! Russian border took so long the MNG border was about to close so were camping in the custom zone, at 2300m! Now drinking vodka!
