Two adventurous Scots doctors are set for an epic 4500 mile journey to Mongolia in an old ambulance they bought on Ebay!

Medics Julia McGill & Roland Partride chipped in together to buy the ambulance to donate to a children's hospital in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia, where such vehicles are very scare and ill-equiped.

And the pals - who met at Oxford University - decided to drive it there themselves.  read more »

Brave pair undertake Mongolian adventure for Yorkhill Children's Foundation! http://www.yorkhillchildrensfoundation.org/our_news/Brave_pair_undertake_Mongolian_adventure_for_Yorkhill_Children_sq_s_Foundation!.aspx?p=3 06 Jun 2011 This summer, Yorkhill's very own Mr Roland Partridge, Paediatric Surgical Registrar, and Dr Julia Mcgill, a GP born & bred in Glasgow, are undertaking an expedition to Mongolia in the hope of raising money for Yorkhill Children's Foundation & "Go Help" a charity that funds child health projects in Mongolia http://www.justgiving.com/AmbulareMongoliaYorkhill Leaving on 23 July 2011 from their hometown of Glasgow, the pair will drive ‘Bella’ the Ambulance (pictured) in order to donate her to a children’s hospital in Ulaanbaatar. The route is in excess of 4000 miles, and will take approximately 4 weeks, travelling through some very challenging environments. The adventure will raise both awareness and funds for Yorkhill Children's Foundation and the Mongolian Children's Charity Go Help. The two met in 1996 when they went up to Oxford University to read Medicine. They have taken part in various charity projects over the years but Yorkhill is particularly close to their hearts. Mr Partridge (33), whom you might recognise from his brilliant performance as Buzz Lightyear in Yorkhill's 2010 Christmas Panto, says "I love working at Yorkhill - it's a privilege to participate in fundraising for such a good cause". Dr McGill (33) is a former pupil of St Ninian's High School in Kirkintilloch. She is no stranger to the wards of Yorkhill, having been admitted herself several times as a child, and having previously worked next door at Queen Mother's Maternity Hospital. Dr McGill tells us "It is so important to provide children with the best possible start and we hope that this expedition will help children at home, and abroad". If you want to meet "Bella" and the team come along to the Kirkintilloch Gala Day on June 11th. Look out for for more fundraising activities around the hospital over the next month. Meantime, if you would like to support them directly please donate at: http://www.justgiving.com/AmbulareMongolia You can also follow their progress en route at www.ambularemongolia.org! Good Luck!
