Dave Treanor and Geoff Stayton, both 30 year veterans of the radio newsroom, are fleeing to Mongolia.

Not to witness any political unrest, or to cover the economic downturn, but instead to donate their trusty steed - a second hand 4x4 - to a local auction in Ulan Bataar, with the proceeds going to local charity projects.

Buying the off-roader themselves, and saving the cash for fuel and border crossings out of their own pockets, the pair are also aiming to raise £1000 in cash to donate to Save the Children.

And despite facing up to a 10,000 mile journey, much of which will be off-road, the pair summarised their driving experience as 'Extensive use of M40' and 'Plodding round in a leaky Volvo'.  read more »
