2. August: First, fun in the sun... OK, there is no sun and the Lake Baikal is 10°C cold but we took a bath...

We made it that day to Ulan Ude, a nice town with the world's largest Lenin Head (The Head) ... with Mongolian facial features ;-) Originally sculpted for an exhibition in Canada, now placed in Ulan Ude's main square.

The elevator in our Sowiet-style hotel failed the quality test and  gave us a couple of minutes to relax...

1. August: We "socialized"with a russian family, celebrating father's birthday with lots of beer and singing... Later that day: arrival in Irkutsk and camping at the Lake Baikal. It's getting pretty cold now (11°C), but we plan to jump into the lake tomorrow.

31. July: Somewhere between Krasnojarsk and Irkutsk. The Trans-Siberian Highway is kind of disappointing, it is quite similar to the Kazakh sand slopes...

On the way to the North, the Pombulance came to it's first real use as we passed by a car accident...

Monday 27 Jul 2009 07:19

We actually found a Mercedes dealer in Almaty - but closed on Saturday...

We managed to get hold of a guy who balanced the wheels and made the track alignment. We decided to drive up to a mountain lake, unfortunately Pombulance couldn't bring it... so camp side for the night at a water reservoir...

Monday 27 Jul 2009 07:15

Friday we drove from Cimkent to Almaty. Removed the radiator thermostat and now the Pombulance is running better again.
