After raising over £1,300 for Save the Children, Ryan and Ajay of the Adventure Tea Party completed the epic 10,000 mile trip to Mongolia on the Mongolia Charity Rally 2009, organised by UK registered charity Go Help, and their ex-military Land Rover 109 ambulance has since been donated directly to the general hospital of Bayan Olgii aimag in Mongolia. Well done guys, and thanks for supporting Charity Rallies!

It was the indie/rock sounds of 90’s surf band RootJoose which was the final album playing on the Truck-o-Luck’s stereo, as its wheels rolled onto the streets of Ulaan Baatar, heralding the end of its epic 7’500 mile dash across the globe, 37 days, across 7 countries and 8 time zones and they were there…  read more »

By the time we got back to London in August, Carla was suffering a few mechanical woes. Nothing too serious, especially considering she had just hauled three men, a trailer and enough kit to sustain a small army in the field for a month across Europe into Russia, virtually to the borders of Central Asia and back in 24 consequetive driving days.  It was a round trip of 6,325miles; 6,825 if you take into account the miles she did in getting to the launch from Scary's via the sign writers in Bristol.  All in all she fared well.  read more »

Independence Square, Kiev at night

Like most big cities, the beauty of Kiev comes alive at night. Here are some of my memories of Independence Square and surrounding area. Kiev is definitely my kind of place!  read more »

19 weeks 15 hours agoMaybe Tomorrow... Day 36 UNLESS SOMETHING VERY DRAMATIC HAPPENS WITHIN THE NEXT 2.5KM... Team Maybe Tomorrow and its Truck-o-Luck should be entering Ulan Baatar at 12.37 GMT+8, To be continued...
19 weeks 1 day agoMaybe Tomorrow... day 35 TARMAC... At 2.32 GMT+8 the TOL's russian snow types hit steeled road for the 1st time in mongolia and the last time on its epic 8000mile journey.j
19 weeks 1 day agoMaybe Tomorrow... Day34: DIESEL THIEFT FOILED yet again, leading to this time a reallife decking of the rather shakey assailant. Radiator continues to run dry as the team prepares to take the final 200km of dirt track before hitting the 400km of tarmac up to UB. Smoke us a kipper we'll be back for breakfast...j
19 weeks 3 days agoMaybe Tomorrow... Day32: in Altai, 1000km from UB. We've stopped again to get another puncture mended. Progress has been painfully slow (12mph) due to ToL's overheating problem on the 1500m climb back into the mountains. Joe came over all queer at the harrowing sight of a mongol rally graveyard full of broken UK plated vehicles that failed to make it to UB during the summer. N
19 weeks 4 days agoMaybe Tomorrow... day31:hello!Hope you enjoyed the cliffhanger there! In the event it was the day-after-tomorrow that TOL finally hauled ass(very slowly)up the big hill out of Oglii, the irony of continuing overheating issues in subzero temperatures not being lost on the slightly hungover team(post-all-night-party to celebrate truck repair).TOL nursed to the middle of nowhere and the warm hospitality of a shepherd and his family.Progress to Khovd this morning was steady but on constant lookout for sump/tyre shredding rocks only to receive a man made puncture in the middle of nowhere from a crosshead screw.oh the irony.T

After an epic 52 hour wait at the Mongolian border for some vital Truck-o-luck paper work, we were back on the road late in the day following a convoy of trucks to our purposed destination for the evening Bayan-Olgii. After a few false starts, including a tow out of a snow drift 30 meters out of the border gates, we were trucking with the big boys...

Taking the advice of a border customs official, we followed the convoy off the high road and on to the low road. The low road although a rutted and in some places snow filled, was nothing the Truck-o-luck and its slightly musty crew hadn't seen before and for a comfortable 40km we kept pace with convoy, as our experienced leader picked the best route through the dramatic mountain scenery.  read more »

20 weeks 2 days agoMaybe Tomorrow... Day26: still at border waiting for ToL's import docs to arrive. But despite being -8 outside, team spirits are high. A local family has put us up in their sauna-hot Ger. Whilst eating mutton dumplings (again), border guards knocked on the door and insisted we park ToL in their garages to avoid engine/diesel freeze. Heart-warming hospitality in such a harsh environment. N

Day 25: MONGOLIA, ALMOST... (Tsagaanuur MGL) After a night of armwrestling, nips of vodka and broken english in the home of the 2 Altai men it towed home lastnight (who it transpired were champion boxers and armwrestlers in the local area), a very cold truck-o-luck smoked out of russia 2ward the mongolian border. Unfortunately on reaching its finally frontier, the TOL is missing some paperwork... not 2 worry its on its way from UB tomorrow, and Team Maybe Tomorrow will be off in morning! Currently haul up in a very cosy, somewhat basic Hotel learning there is such thing as being 2 warm, mustn't grumble though after an hour this morning of digging the TOL out of a snow drift... Goodnight from a slightly barmy, snow capped 5000ft.J

20 weeks 4 days agoMaybe Tomorrow... Day24: TOWTRUCK-O-LOVE! Winding our way carefully amongst the snowy peaks of the Altai territory we've acquired a broken down Lada Niva! - great vehicles for these conditions IF you remember to fill it up with petrol. Niva and 2 Altai men currently on tow in the snow...
