Thanks and kudos to AQL for the SMS to email service that made this possible!

Here are the latest blogs from all the teams on the rally. Only teams that have included location data in their blogs appear on the map, and their location is the last one we know about; having said that, we do try to add their location if they mention where they are!

So the weekend before last we all met up at Team Bearded Dragon's southern HQ to start finalising plans for the trip and give everyone the chance to get some Bertie driving practice in.

It was also a good opportunity to make some of the minor repairs Bertie needs... If you have an LDV Convoy with door issues, Charlie and Tom are now experts in door fixing!

We also used our first (genuine, of course) Jubilee Clip to repair a loose air duct under the bonnet. Only the finest Hose Clips are good enough for our Bertie!  read more »

altai republic. The past couple of days have been a bit of a blur of vodka and homemade cherry brandy. Experienced some lovely Russian hospitality and had a day trip driving on one of the most dangerous roads in Russia apparently. Off to the Mongolian border today.

Right, end of the radio silence. A lot has happened in the last month to drag us kicking and screaming towards the start line (and this is meant to be the easy bit).

Since the last blog I have learned that:

* Fundraising is probably the easiest way to annoy everyone on Facebook (without getting reported to Mr Zuckerberg’s minions).  read more »

P87 barnaul. Very modern after the past few weeks and the first time we have struggled for a room as hotels are full. It also seems to rain a lot in Siberia! Is there anyone going on the rally who will have any space in their luggage to take a few things home from ub for us?

P55 semey. Well actually this morning we are at the Kazakh Russian border in no man's land and a thunderstorm is just beginning. Hopefully not an ominous sign when entering the motherland!!

Driving across the Kazakh steppe. Who would have thought there would be so many bugs here! Fly swats came in useful in the war against the midges last night -thanks work people!

P50 Almaty. Steve went for a Kazakh haircut. Top tip bring a map for the city, or indeed even a map of Kazakhstan to help with navigation!

P59 Bishkek finally!found out from some minibus drivers the roadblock had cleared so climbed Solomon's throne, had a final meat on a brazier and chips and set off on the long and spectacular journey to the capital. We remembered to stop at the police stop points this time so avoided another long conversation with the policemen. Also had the biggest laghman for breakfast which kept us full all day. Hail and snow near the top of the road.

P187 osh. Third day here as the road to Bishkek is still closed at Jalalabad. Can't complain about having access to restaurants and bars for a change though as well as a friendly clean hotel with no surprise wake up calls. Seems to be the preferred choice of the local pilots too. Steve may decide to have a go at the karaoke or the firing ranges in the park today

P188 crossed over into Kyrgyzstan for an evening camping with the most amazing view of the pamirs and peak Lenin. It was an incredible drive from murgab, very remote and barren, and interestingly right next to the Chinese border which was moved after Tajikistan gave them a slice of land in return for writing off some debt. Only downside to the day was the bent customs officer on the Tajik side.
