Legal status of the vehicle import to Mongolia
We've have signed an Agreement with the CDPF (Childrens Development Protection Fund) which sets out how we will cooperate. CDPF will be responsible for the vehicle import, and be entitled to the proceeds from the sale of the vehicles at auction.
The CDPF signatory to the agreement was their Vice Chairman Enkhbaatar who has a vast experience in the import of vehicles into Mongolia from Japan. The agreement has also had approval from Gandi, the NGO President and the longest serving MP in the Grand Khural (Mongolian Parliament).
Gandi has also signed a separate document, a 'Note de Memoire' which basically states that the agreement signed between us and the CDPF conforms with the Mongolian legal requirements. In turn this feeds into the Ministry of Finance who allow all vehicles donated through the event to the CDPF to be granted a tax free status.
Without such an agreement importing a car into Mongolia, it can be a very costly business with duty of up to $5000!
Go Help Trustee Will with Enkhbaatar (Nov 2007)
By signing such an agreement we have to be responsible about the vehicles that we take. The Government has a clear policy of reducing the number of older vehicles on the roads in Ulaanbaatar, and the prospect of bringing in worn out vehicles from across the world does not fill them with enthusiasm, this is why the $1000 minimum and the further charitable donations are required.
We have the exclusive right to import vehicles for 2008 with the CDPF and we want the event to grow, forging closer ties between Britain and Mongolia. For this reason the trustees of GO HELP will be working in conjunction with CDPF to help teams determine which vehicles are good for import into Mongolia, and which are not.
